Our anti-money laundering (AML) policies are generally based on the highest standards that are required in the jurisdictions where we operate, and apply in relation to all of our business in all of our offices all over the world. We conduct client background checks and due diligences on each new client and persons connected with them. We also place our clients on an ongoing screening system that alerts us if an existing client has committed an act that is considered illegal. Where necessary for these purposes, we seek relevant information from third party data suppliers. Where individuals have supplied personal data for this purpose we will only use it for that purpose and will keep it only as long as the relevant AML and data protection legislation requires.
The Firm also has internal procedures to ensure that any suspicions of money laundering are reported to the appropriate authorities where there is an obligation to do so. Our counsels and other relevant staff are provided with training on these issues.
The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights which were unanimously endorsed by the Human Rights Council in 2011 state that all business enterprises have a responsibility to respect human rights. As a firm we have agreed to support and respect internationally recognized human rights, both as part of our commitment to the UN Global Compact and consistent with the UN Guiding Principles.
We prefer to communicate in writing. We understand however, that due to the nature of our business and the needs of our clients and service providers, a need to communicate via telephone is quite often necessary. We therefore record all incoming and outgoing phone calls for service quality monitoring, training, reference and professional standards preservation. Despite local laws in some jurisdictions, where recording communications may not be permissible without consent of the caller or the person being called; when consent is granted by the caller or the person being called by ACIC, by continuing the phone call, the recording is then deemed conformant to all local laws and statutes. If you are not sure you would like to have your interaction recorded by ACIC or not, we invite you to send a letter or an email with your case / request.
ACIC Inc. is committed to providing its clients with legal advice on immigration matters of the utmost supreme quality. Any client who is unhappy about the advice and service that it receives from ACIC, including any concerns about a bill, is entitled to complain. A complaint filed with ACIC will receive a response within 5 business days, as decreed by our regulator the CICC (link to www.college-ic.ca).
All ACIC Inc. entities worldwide have professional indemnity insurance cover which is in excess of any local compulsory requirements.
